I recommend management and you all readers to take a look at it. I was happy to report about my experience with the Shangri-La Ningbo on this account. Although proven to be flawed at sometimes, they find someway to redeem themselves. They really pride themselves at being the best in terms of Luxurious Asian Hospitality. I would like to start off by saying that I have a great deal of respect for the Shangri-La Hotel and Resorts hospitality company. When relying on a 5 star hotel to get you to a famous tourist site this is totally unacceptable.… The Hôtel concierge had booked a journey that was totally incorrect. You can imagine the arguments in the taxi! Luckily we had a Chinese friend who helped us. In total we spend more than 2 hours in a taxi journey costing $60. Please be aware that the drivers don’t speak English. We opted to pay for the taxi and ended up being sent on a horrific journey. We asked the concierge to assist us and he informed either we pay him or taxi driver. We decided to go to Nanshi, Old Town that’s a popular tourist destination on TripAdvisor. My sales manager was told to wait 1 hour for her room. 16:30 at reception and I’m told no rooms are available as they’re full. Having spent a further 15 minutes around the hotel I decided to get off the coach and try to check in. There was a lot of arguments with the Hôtel concierge and the driver. This was not permitted to enter the hotel and the concierge team rather than assisting us with our luggage told the driver to drive around. I was invited as a group from the Maldives to promote tourism and we arrived on a coach. The worst experience I’ve ever encountered and I’m a General Manager of hotels and resorts for the past 25 years. If this were a 3 or 4-star hotel, it might be tolerable, but for the price and reputation of the Shangri-La brand, this is absolutely unacceptable.… I've been to numerous 5-star hotels worldwide, and this Shangri-La experience is by far the WORST. However, these small positives could not make up for the abysmal service I received during my stay. Unbelievable! There were a couple of redeeming qualities: the hotel's prime location and the main entrance staff member (dressed in a red coat), who was helpful and courteous, assisting us with transportation arrangements. A bellboy jumped the queue to enter the lift, leaving guests behind without holding the door for them. The staff, far from the friendliness one would expect in a 5-star establishment, were impolite and even rude. The breakfast selection was severely limited and lacked any authentic Shanghai flavors. They only managed to send a technician at 6am, who couldn't even fix the problem! Eventually, they moved us to another room just two floors below, without any further service recovery measures or a proper apology. How on earth can a 5-star hotel in a skyscraper allow such a travesty? The service recovery was utterly disappointing. My room had an unbearable noise problem, with curtains constantly being battered by the wind as if I was sleeping under a construction site or inside a roaring plane. I recently stayed at the hotel, expecting the 5-star luxury experience they boast about, but what I received was a horrendous NIGHTMARE.
